"We are here. . ."

I'm blogging from our last day at Autreat and I keep thinking about the end of Dr. Seuss' "Horton Hears a Who" when the Whos of Whoville shout, "We are here, we are here, we are here."

If you don't know the story, Horton, an elephant, befriends a culture of microscopic people, the Whos, who live on a dustspeck.

Because the other inhabitants of the forest of Nool can't hear or see the tiny Whos, they believe Horton is insane and decide to punish him by boiling the dustspeck Horton is trying to protect.

No matter that Horton get bullied and harassed, he has faith in his friends and begs them to make as much noise as possible so the others can hear them.

At the end of the story, all the Whos begin to shout, "We are here, we are here, we are here."

I am aspie.

I am here.

We are here.

We must not allow the majority to silence us.

We must not allow our fear to silence us.

I will not be silent.

We are here.

And I am so much wishing we could be "here," at Autreat! With Charlie's ESY starting and my in-laws' needs, we couldn't make it. Please let us know how it has been------once again, wish we were "here."

Very apropos to just now stumble on this, your very recent posting.. While updating a list of favorite books, couldn't for the Life of me remember which Who book "We are here, we are here, we are here!" came from so I googled, and your entry came up first..

Apropos because of your subject matter.. Later this week I have a bouncing baby first appointment to look into the possibility of my being an Aspie, as I very much suspect (and actually hope as it would explain A LOT through the years)..

Apropos because a dear friend whom I was just beginning to get to know before she passed away last year has been very close in mind lately.. Your mentions of Autreat brought it on home as Memory serves she was possibly a regular [fixture] there each year..

Taking it as a gentle sign that maybe, with a little luck, she'll be sitting supportively on one shoulder come Friday morn..

Funny how seemingly completely unrelated things can all come together in an instant as one..

Peace and best wishes.. :)
